2026's Best Games

in sound mind xbox series x

After first being revealed in 2020, and then being pushed back from the confirmed release date, In Sound Mind is finally here and available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC. Are you ready to tackle the psychological fears that it brings?

Available to purchase and download right now, this next-gen exclusive title (there is no Xbox One or PS4 love to be had here) comes out of the Modus Games and We Create Stuff teams to take players into a fresh new horror experience like no other.

Priced at £29.99 and also coming to Nintendo Switch a little further down the line, In Sound Mind sees you awakening in the corridors of a strange building. It’s here where the world around you begins to come to life, leaving you as the player to dive into the psyches of a variety of individuals, attempting to navigate the environments at hand, and trying your best to solve a number of puzzles.

A freakish affair that promises to deliver some of the most unpredictable dangers, In Sound Mind casts you as therapist Desmond Wales, but whilst going deep into his patients’ minds may well be all good, it doesn’t take long before he finds himself at the mercy of his own mind.

With a distinct artstyle that hypes the horror feel, and an eerie soundtrack powering your every last piece of progression, should you be up for a new psychological horror experience, In Sound Mind may well be able to push out exactly what you are looking for.

Those key features in summary –

  • • A fresh horror experience from the creators of Nightmare House 2.
  • • Journey through a series of haunting memories, each with unique puzzles, mechanics, weapons, and boss fights.
  • • An eerie soundtrack from the internet icon The Living Tombstone.
  • • Explore an imaginative and disorienting narrative featuring a host of unlikely companions.
  • • You can pet the cat.

Our full review is in the works and will let you know how this plays out on Xbox Series X|S, but for now you can grab yourself a copy of In Sound Mind by visiting the Xbox Store. Just remember, you’ll need an Xbox Series X|S in order to play it.

You’ll also find In Sound Mind present on PS5 and PC. Hold tight for the Nintendo Switch drop.

Game Description:

As you awake in the corridors of an inexplicable building, you find the environment takes on a life of its own and leads you to discover a series of victims, all exposed to the same experimental chemical. In your search for answers, bizarre visions emerge and introduce a host of imposing horrors…and a cat named Tonia. From the creators of the cult classic Nightmare House 2 comes In Sound Mind, a witty first-person psychological horror with frenetic puzzles and unique boss fights. Traverse a series of unsettling memories as you journey within the inner workings of the one place you can’t seem to escape—your own mind.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
