Whilst the success of the rather fantastic Strange Brigade may still be fresh on players’ minds, there’s no denying that what really put Rebellion on the map, was the rather fantastic Sniper Elite series. With two years having passed since the last Sniper Elite adventure however, there are many who have been keen for Rebellion to announce a new adventure centred around the iconic Karl Fairburne. Today brings that very news we’ve all been waiting with multiple exciting announcements to be looking forward to for all fans of Sniper Elite.
So first up is probably the announcement many had been hoping for in recent years with the sudden surge in remastered titles, and that is the remastering of the iconic second title in the series, Sniper Elite V2 Remastered. Of course, it would have been lovely to have seen the series’ first title make a remastered appearance too, but with Sniper Elite V2 being one of the best games in the series, there’s no denying many will be excited by the chance to head back to Berlin. Sniper Elite V2 is a game that has seen huge success, with it even having a bunch of successful mods that eventually spurned the development of Zombie Army Trilogy – but what’s new this time around?
Whilst some may well be questioning the decision to remaster Sniper Elite V2 given the already present backwards compatibility of the Xbox 360 title, this remastered return will see players able to jump on in with some great new features. First of all will be the stunningly enhanced graphics, complete with 4K resolution and HDR compatibility. That’s a big deal for those sporting either an Xbox One S, or an Xbox One X, as that means even crisper visuals, clearer pictures and much nicer textures. If that’s not enough though Sniper Elite V2 Remastered will also see the arrival of new playable characters this time around, as well as an all new photo mode for the screenshot enthusiasts amongst us, and even an expanded online multiplayer with up to 16 players now able to take to the battlefield in some online World War 2 warfare. What’s more is that it will be available later this year on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch.
Now whilst Sniper Elite V2 Remastered is fantastic news, there’s very little more exciting than hearing of the existence of the next step in the series. Sniper Elite 5. At present there is little to go on besides the fact Rebellion have today confirmed they are working on the next game in the series, but a confirmation we’ll see even more sniping perfection is of course something we need to be shouting from the rooftops.
If that doesn’t fill your boots and you find yourself also enjoying some gaming on the go, then maybe the announcement of Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition for Nintendo Switch will be what you find yourself looking for, as later in 2019 players will be able to take to the soaring temperatures of North Africa on the go.
And finally, comes the news of a new standalone adventure for Sniper Elite with a VR game confirmed to be in development, with highly respected British studio Just Add Water aiding in the development of the upcoming mainline title that is set to arrive at some point in 2020.
So, there we have it, several new announcements and plenty of Sniper Elite excitement to be going on with.
