Deck 13 and Focus Home Interactive look to have something a little special on their hands and today the latest trailer for The Surge has surfaced. Want to get targeting, looting and equipping?
Arriving on Xbox One, PS4 and PC come 16th May 2017, The Surge  promises some rather hardcore action RPG goodness and that can be seen in the latest trailer – one which highlights the limb-slicing loot system in all its brutal glory.
Set in a dystopian future in which Earth is nearing the end of its life, The Surge will empower players by giving them control over what they loot from defeated enemies. You’ll be able to target specific body parts, before damaging them with a combination of vertical and horizontal attacks – something which will result in the dismembered part then determining what piece of equipment is looted: the schematic corresponding to the sliced armor part, salvaged materials for crafting the corresponding piece, or even the weapon wielded by the enemy! This means that upon approaching an enemy you will be faced with a difficult decision: do you target an unarmored body part for a shorter fight, or risk a lengthier, damaging battle for a chance at slicing off a shiny new piece of equipment? Only you can decide.
It is this balance of risk and reward which is the core  mechanic to your success in The Surge – the toughest enemies drop the most powerful weapons and armor, so if you see a piece of equipment you like the look of, you need to fight hard for it… or at the very least die trying.
In case you are unaware, the key features of the grim vision of the future which The Surge brings include:
- Tight, visceral hardcore action RPG combat
- Unique targeting, dismemberment and level up systems
- Explore a dystopian world full of mystery
- Battle an array of huge, fearsome bosses
- Loot, craft, and upgrade new weapons and armors
As always, we’ll bring you more as and when we have it but the trailer below should keep you quiet for a little while.
I like the look of this, so I think it’ll be another added to the backlog!
I like the look of the combat and the whole human in a transformer style mech suit thing but need to see more of the gameplay before I can decide. Footage makes it look like little more than a Tekken/Injustice style brawler at the moment. Definitely one to keep an eye on though!
