Even though we’re primarily console gamers, there are the odd PC games that tempt us to cross the line to the world of keyboard and mouse. Thankfully those games eventually pop up on console too – just like The Darkside Detective is doing right now on Xbox and PlayStation.

Previously having launched on PC through Steam back in 2017 – a place where it’s picked up a host of Very Positive reviews – and then having dropped on Nintendo Switch in 2018, The Darkside Detective has now rocked up onto Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5, bringing some paranormal, yet comedic, adventuring our way.

Priced at £10.74 from the Xbox Store, The Darkside Detective comes about via the Akupara Games team (they previously behind Metronomicon: Slay the Dance Floor), giving you the chance to grab your trench coat and to dial in your sixth sense in order to become a success in the Darkside Division. You see, it is here where you’ll be found heading to the city of Twin Lakes, left to help Detective McQueen and Officer Patrick Dooley investigate the strange cases at hand.

Running a point and click style, it’ll be up to you to utilise your powers of deduction, your wits, and whatever else is needed as you attempt to close the cases found in Twin Lakes for good.

With jokes aplenty, a gorgeous retro pixel style, some stunning music and no less than 9 bite-sized micro cases to take in, whether you have played The Darkside Detective previously on Steam or Switch matters little – now that it’s on Xbox and PlayStation you can fill your boots once more.

Features include:

  • • 9 paranormal bite-sized micro cases to investigate around Twin Lakes City, including a Christmas Spectacular Special
  • • At least three jokes
  • • Cutting edge, high definition pixels
  • • One free curse-removal, up to and including mid-level witch hexes
  • • Music from Ben Prunty, the audiomancer behind gems such as Into the Breach, Subnautica, and FTL

We’ll have a full review of The Darkside Detective on Xbox Series X|S coming your way soon, but if you wish to join the paranormal and reckon your detective skills are on point, head over to the Xbox Store or PlayStation Store right now.

And keep an eye out for the drop of The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark next week too. It seems like Akupara have got that lined up as well.

Game Description:

“Where cultists crawl, where demons dwell, where the occult… occults? *ahem* That’s where you’ll find Detective Francis McQueen, the lead investigator of the criminally underfunded Darkside Division. When evil darkens the doorsteps of Twin Lakes City – hell, even when it just loiters around shop fronts or hangs out in shady alleyways – he’s there, ready to investigate the cases that nobody else will. He is The Darkside Detective. —– The COMPLETE SEASON ONE collection of this multi award-winning comedic serial adventure sees Detective McQueen and his sidekick, Officer Patrick Dooley, investigating cases plaguing Twin Lakes and its colorful citizens. Point at everything in sight, click around mysterious and eerie locations, and use your wits (or borrow a friend’s) to lay these cases to rest!”

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
