When it comes to emotional, beautifully designed 2D platformers, the likes of Inside and Limbo immediately spring to mind. Planet of Lana is looking to take up some of that brain power too!

Releasing today on Xbox and PC, day one through the Xbox Game Pass programme, Planet of Lana sets you upon a dysfunctional planet, that was formerly a planet in which human and nature lived in harmony. Now, that is certainly not the case, as this alien odyssey is rampant with huge mechanical beasts, hell-bent on hunting you down. Maybe Planet of Lana is more akin to Somerville, now we think of it.

Regardless of whichever titles developers Wishfully have drawn upon, the fact is that Planet of Lana looks absolutely stunning, with the conversations between Lana and her small alien cat Mui being perforated by lush forests, arid deserts, and many other colourful landscapes in between. This will all be enjoyed within stealth sections, as you evade your robotic enemies, combining with Mui to solve puzzles, or making a mad dash for it in action set-pieces, complete with optional QTEs.

A full list of features present in Planet of Lana includes:

  • Unique companion-based gameplay.
  • Solve puzzles with diverse challenges and quirky twists.
  • Carefully navigate dangerous situations using stealth and wit.
  • Use your reflexes and survive challenging action sequences.
  • Discover an epic story that stretches across galaxies and centuries.

In our recent full review of Planet of Lana – which you can read here – we praised the game for its amazing visual and audio presentation, and captivating story. So much so, that we believe Planet of Lana should be firmly thought of as one of the best in this rich genre, with a 4.5/5 score. ‘Planet of Lana is a five-hour masterpiece’ – sold yet?

Planet of Lana is available today for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. If you don’t own Xbox Game Pass, then you can pick up a copy via the Xbox Store.

Game Description:

A planet that used to be a place of undisturbed balance between human, nature, and animal has now become something else entirely. The disharmony that had been in the making for hundreds of years has finally arrived in the form of a faceless army. But this is not a story about war. This is a story about a vibrant, beautiful planet –and the journey to keep it that way.
