Time on Frog Island prepares to leap onto consoles – digitally and at retail – this Summer

2026's Best Games

You may not have heard of Time on Frog Island previously, but there’s good reason for that – it’s the new name for Merge Games and Half Past Yellow’s sandbox puzzle adventure affair. Previously going under the name of Trading Time: A Croak Tale, Time on Frog Island has today been confirmed for console and PC launch this summer – when it’ll be arriving both digitally and at retail.

Due to hit Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam in Summer 2022, Time on Frog Island is the new name for Merge and Half Past Yellow’s, Trading Time: A Croak Tale. And yep, we think the name change is a good ‘un.

It’ll be available this summer as a physical retail release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as well as digitally for all platforms including PC via Steam.

In Time on Frog Island, players will find that a sailor is shipwrecked on a strange island after a terrible storm; awakening to find his boat in ruins. Clutching his precious potted plant, the old sea dog goes about trying to fix his boat and find his way home. It’s not as easy as that though and unfortunately the peculiar frog-like locals that he’ll need to work with don’t speak his language and they aren’t about to give up the items he needs without something in exchange. A spaghetti network of trades will therefore take him all over this strange island as he seeks out materials to fix his boat.

In Time on Frog Island you’ll get to meet a cast of friendly characters, will spend time trying to solve head-scratching puzzles, go on the hunt to find hidden treasures, and much more as you explore this toadally awesome island sandbox adventure.

The key features you’ll be interested in with Time on Frog Island include:

Explore at your own pace

  • Make your own path in this island sandbox, you never know what will be around the next corner!
  • Get to know the froggy locals and help out where you can.
  • Discover new items by fishing and farming, and concoct simple brews that will change how you traverse the island.
  • Learn from the frogs and put your new skills to the test around the island.

Trade to fix your boat

  • Ask around for the items you need, but bear in mind that you might need to do a frog a favour to get what you want.
  • Solve interesting puzzles to get your hands on required items.
  • Try not to get too sidetracked by island life!

Experiment with everything!

  • Run faster, jump higher, fall slower, anything is possible if you’re holding the right item.
  • Discover different ways to complete those crucial trades.
  • Each object you pick up could end up being the key to something bigger

We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop for everything for Time on Frog Island, but expect Merge Games to be producing physical retail copies of Time on Frog Island for Nintendo Switch ($34.99 / €34.99 / ÂŁ29.99), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One/X|S ($29.99 / €29.99 / ÂŁ24.99).

For now though, kick back with the trailer below.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
