train sim world 2 release

Since the launch of Train Sim World back in 2018, railway fanatics have had the chance to enjoy the chance to ride the rails, kicking back as the fastest locos whizzed by, or jumping into the drivers seat to fully immerse themselves in the way of the train life. In fact, train fanatic or not, the original Train Sim World provided a rather tasty loco-filled treat. Now though Dovetail Games are back, with the launch of Train Sim World 2 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC – and it is this which is threatening to take the genre to all new levels.

Available to purchase and download on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, Train Sim World 2 is the culmination of Dovetail’s railway minds getting together to deliver an altogether better train sim experience. Taking everything that they learnt from the creation of the original Train Sim World, the sequel takes things up a notch, providing access to new trains, new lines, new routes, and most excitedly, the London Underground.

Priced at £24.99, Train Sim  World 2 is the most immersive train simulator yet, as Dovetail gather up a ton of real-world data to bring the world of the railway to life. More complex than before, but also simpler to get going for the train newbie, Train Sim World 2 ticks a host of boxes with advancement over the previous game stretching all the way to the opportunity to create your own train liveries, and to enable the ‘madness mode’, letting you do away with physics, and forget all about real-world obstacles to put whatever train you want on whichever line and route takes your fancy. Yep, if you wish to take to the Bakerloo line and stick some huge American trailer on there, you can. Just because this is a sim, it doesn’t have to be serious.

Founder and CEO of Dovetail Games Paul Jackson said: “Train Sim World 2 is the evolution of train simulation and I couldn’t be more proud of our team of incredible railfans who have made the dream of driving trains on a living breathing railway an authentic reality. We’ve got huge releases planned for the future; Train Sim World 2 is just the start.”

Features include:

  • AUTHENTIC ROUTES – Feel the thrill of high-speed German rail with the famous DB ICE 3M out of Köln, take the challenge of long freight on Sand Patch Grade in the CSX AC4400CW, and master the complex London Underground on the Bakerloo Line.
  • CREATIVE TOOLS – Personalise your journey with new easy to use tools. Craft custom liveries with the Livery Designer and pick the locos/destinations you want to drive with Scenario Planner.
  • REALISTIC GAMEPLAY – SimuGraph® has evolved, adding realistic adhesion physics. Upgraded visual fidelity also adds dynamic skies and 4K support.
  • IMMERSIVE SIMULATION – Get clear information on instructions, gradient and more as you drive with a new immersive interface and controls.

With the opportunity to drag in your old Train Sim World content into Train Sim World 2 should you so wish with the Preserved Collection, fans of the scene will no doubt be more than drawn to the need to upgrade their train sim game, and right now that opportunity arises. Get over to the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store or grab a PC download and enjoy what Dovetail Games have created with Train Sim World 2 right now.

It wouldn’t be a Dovetail Games titles without a smattering of DLC though and accompanying the base game come a host of options. The Peninsula Corridor: San Francisco – San Jose DLC pack will set you back £24.99 but will let you experience a bit of Californian styled railroading as you drop into the Peninsula Corridor, whilst the similarly priced Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr: Duisburg – Bochum DLC has you working the routes between Essen and Bochum, carrying passengers along Deutsche Bahn’s ever-busy Rhein-Ruhr Line.

Alongside those come the East Coastway, again for £24.99, as you experience modern commuter traction along the wonderfully picturesque countryside of Southern England, while two cheaper loco focused DLC packs – the Caltrain MP15DC Diesel Switcher and the Caltrain MP36PH-3C ‘Baby Bullet’ will each set you back £11.99.

Are any of those DLC totally necessary? Probably not, but if you like what Train SIm World 2 delivers then you’ll most definitely want to consider a purchase of them.

We’ll have a full review of how things play out coming your way in the days and weeks ahead but for now our recent invite to attend a press event for the game is well worth taking in – join us by going underground with Train Sim World 2.
