The Warhammer universe is vast and varied, with numerous games available to help immerse you further. The latest is that of Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters as it goes storming onto Xbox and PlayStation.

Available right now as the latest Warhammer experience on console, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters has been put together by those at Frontier Developments and Complex Games. Playing out as a turn-based strategy affair, if you have any inkling of an interest in the subject matter, you should be diving in right now.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters has been developed in conjuction with Games Workshop, as you may expect to hear. This one puts players at the helm of humanity’s greatest weapon, the Grey Knights, purging chaos in strategic turn-based tactical combat. They find themselves looking to turn the tide against the Bloom, a deadly new plague proliferated by the forces of Nurgle. And they’ll do that by dominating the battlefields with firepower, melee weapons, psychic abilities and even the environment itself.

Perfect for veterans and noobs

Over the course of an epic campaign, you’ll get the chance to take control of Force Commander of Strike Force Xiphos, seeking to eliminate the five Reapers of the Bloom, ultimately halting its spread. What this means is that you’ll be left chasing down the source of the corruption, all as a story plays out, culminating in a clash featuring iconic characters from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, delighting die-hard fans and newcomers alike. And believe us, it’s perfect for the noobs. We’ve been there and done that.

Across the battlefields of the grimdark far future, players will deploy their elite strike force to crush the forces of Chaos. Customising each Grey Knight’s weaponry, armour and class-unique abilities, Force Commanders can shape their squad to suit their tactics; unleashing their fury in close-quarters, or dispatching Nurgle’s allies from afar.

There are multiple ways to go about this too. In hand-to-hand combat and by overwhelming an enemy with repeated attacks, players can deal a devastating blow in precision targeting mode, reducing their foe’s effectiveness or even delivering a brutal cinematic execution. Alternatively, fight at range, each Knight’s damage output can be assessed before committing to an order, and with their finely-honed marksmanship, every strike is sure to deliver damning devastation. The battlefield itself also offers additional tactical options for players, by collapsing crumbling cathedral pillars onto foes or toppling flaming braziers to create a wall of flame.

The thing is, between battles, players will support the mysterious Inquisitor Vakir’s research and seek to restore their wounded Strike Cruiser to full operational service, providing new opportunities to restrict the Bloom, both on the ground and across the sector.
