There aren’t too many biographical adventure games out there, but Triple Topping Games are looking to change that with the release of Welcome to Elk on Xbox One and PC via Steam.
In Welcome to Elk on Xbox One and PC, you’ll get to walk, talk, drink and share stories with Danish locals on the titular island of Elk, as you take on the role of apprentice to a carpenter, but get summarily dragged into the community’s various troubles. It’s a narrative-driven adventure game in the vein of Night in the Woods or Kentucky Route Zero, and – if we’re being frank – it all looks a bit snazzy. We’ve particularly fallen for the pared-back, black-and-white graphics and ragdoll animations.
The game is scattered with minigames to punctuate all the fishing and beer-drinking, so expect to help out your village chums in bizarre ways. Being biographical, the development team have also drawn on stories and memories from Danish travellers to give the whole thing an authentic, smells-like-sea-salt vibe.
So, if you’ve ever nursed a desire to become a Danish carpenter in a fishing village then you’re probably lying, but at least Welcome to Elk makes the prospect of it look attractive.
