Why You Should Try Out A Virtual Escape Room

Right now, beating the boredom seems harder than ever. Whether that means you’ve already worked your way through the latest games or have found yourself replaying classics time and time again- numerous government-mandated lockdowns mean that you’re probably on the lookout for something new to keep yourself (and your friends) entertained, while staying safe at the same time. After all, there are only so many times you can play the same game…right?

Luckily, there is a perfect solution that’s been sitting in front of your eyes the whole time – a virtual escape room.

what is a virtual escape room

Though escape rooms have been around for a while, they have exploded in popularity in recent years – making them an excellent choice for date-night, reconnecting with friends, or even a team-bonding experience with colleagues. Furthermore, escape rooms that cater to large groups could also be a great way to treat your students at the end of a long week.  The premise is quite simple – a group of people (usually between 2-8) are locked into a room that is filled with hidden clues, messages, and tasks.  By solving the clues, they uncover more information about the space and eventually find a way out (by locating the key). However, they usually only have a set amount of time to complete these tasks – 60 minutes or less.

As you can imagine, it is a lot of fun and is a great way to relieve some stress while also putting your mind to the test. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing many physical premises to close, it seemed as the door to the best escape rooms would be locked for the foreseeable future.

Thankfully, this is not the case – as a virtual escape room is a great way to fill the void from the comfort of the safety of your own home. Thanks to companies such as The Escape Game, you still have the chance to put your friends to the test and solve a variety of mysteries without even stepping outside of your front door. You simply need an internet connection and a zoom account. This also means that unlike similar games offered online, you don’t need to be in the same room as your friends to play together – as you can join a zoom call no matter where you may be in the world.

Even better, you often have plenty of different game options to choose from – meaning you can tailor your escape room to your specific interests. For example, at The Escape Game, you can choose from the following options:

  • Prison Break (Task: Escaping a prison cell and murderous warden against the clock)
  • Gold Rush (Task: Find a hidden supply of gold before the mob beat you to it)
  • Ruins: Forbidden Treasure (Task: Abandoned in the middle of a jungle, do you have what it takes to uncover the treasure within a temple?)
  • The Heist (Task: You have one hour to pull off a successful art heist from a famous gallery).
